Four Prong vs Six Prong Engagement Ring On A .50ct Diamond
Q:
Hello Liz,
I’m looking for something in the price of $1500 to $3000.
Carat – around .5
Color – H or better
Clarity – Sl1 or better
Ring – Solitaire with four prong vs six prong engagement ring or halo setting
Thank you for any help you can be to a confused college student.
Oliver

Hi Oliver,
Thanks for letting me know your diamond specs and budget. You will definitely get the most bang for your buck if you go with a solitaire four prong vs six prong engagement ring. This is because halo-settings are about 4-5 x’s more expensive than a simple solitaire setting.
So, for example you could get a .602ct G VS2 for $2,413.00: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2890077.htm paired with a simple four prong solitaire engagement ring like this for $339.50: https://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/4-prong-tiffany-style-solitaire-engagement-ring-587.htm
On the other hand, if you wanted a halo-setting, you would need to downsize on your diamond carat weight. So, if you wanted to go this route, here is a nice combination: https://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/diamond-settings/amphora-diamond-engagement-ring-1039.htm with this diamond: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2960087.htm

Q:
Hey Liz,
Thanks for the recommendations. I love the look of Whiteflash!
However, due to some unforeseen circumstances I only have about $2500 as a max now. I found this diamond https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2970607.htm or this one https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2970604.htm.
Which of the two would you suggest?
Thanks,
Oliver
A:
No problem Oliver.
I prefer this diamond’s cut and light performance better: https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2970604.htm
It will be beautiful.
Kind Regards,
Liz
Q:
What is your opinion on a four prong vs six prong engagement ring? I think I like the four prong engagement ring better.
Thanks again,
Oliver
A:
Four Prong vs Six Prong Engagement Rings are largely a matter of personal preference. Six prong rings can look a bit busy on a petite diamond (.80ct or less) whereas four prongs can make a diamond appear more square-ish when set traditionally. A four prong engagement ring can avoid the square appearance by setting the diamond in North/South East/West setting like this: https://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/carina-solitaire-engagement-ring-2380.htm
In your case, I think that the four prong setting for your diamond carat weight is a very good choice.
Kind Regards,
Liz
