Blue Nile Reviews For Princess Cut Diamonds

Q:

Hi Liz,

My fiance has found a setting that she likes very much on Blue Nile. It is the petite diamond engagement ring in white gold.

I need to find a suitable princess cut loose diamond for this setting. I am looking for a princess cut at around .50ct or .60ct for the center stone. My budget is $2,000 – $2,500. Can you help with this process??

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,

Sure, I’m happy to help. Let me know what you think of this princess cut from Blue Nile for $1,402.00: .51ct F VS1

Kind Regards,

Liz

Q:

Hi Liz,

Thanks for the info. I do like the princess you selected. I found a few more that I’d love your opinion on. Which of the following princess cut diamonds would you recommend?

Here are the three I am looking at:

.52ct G VS1 for $1,025.00

.57ct G VVS2 for $953.00

.52ct E VS1 for $994.00

I am thinking the .57 would be the best choice. What do you think? Please let me know and I will be sure to support ODBA and put in the order right away!!

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,

All of the princess cut diamonds you have chosen from Blue Nile have no corresponding diamond images. The photos on Blue Nile’s website are just samples. Please refer to my Blue Nile Review for more information.

It is impossible to know whether or not a princess cut diamond is cut well enough to be brilliant and sparkle with only a GIA report (please read up on How To Buy Princess Cut Diamonds for more info).

The only diamond I can vouch for is the original .51ct F VS1 I originally recommended. It has an ASET image on the AGS diamond grading report which shows me the light performance. This diamond is an AGS triple 0! That means ideal light performance, ideal polish and ideal symmetry; which is very very good!

Princess AGS lab report with ASET

Princess cut diamonds from Blue Nile have no corresponding images. The best way to predict light performance (brilliance and sparkle) is to find a diamond that was graded by AGS that has an ASET image. This .51ct F VS1 shows ideal cut grade with ideal light performance, ideal polish, and ideal symmetry.

GIA doesn’t grade princess cut diamonds on cut. The cut grade is given by Blue Nile, but it isn’t given by GIA. Take a look at the actual diamond grading report.

The other GIA diamond certs give no indication of light performance. You will be very happy with the .51ct F VS1. I know it is a little more, but it is worth it. 🙂
