Blue Nile Cushion Cut Engagement Ring – How To Choose Between Different Vendors

Hello Liz,

I am trying to find a cushion cut diamond. One that is more rounded on the edges. It needs to be close to 2 carats. I understand that coming in just below 2 can be less expensive and that would be fine. I’m not sure if I want the modified cushion or standard. Any recommendation there?

Also, the ring setting she wants is going to be rose gold. I’ve read that with rose gold you can get a diamond with a lower color rating since it will already pick up the color of the ring. Could I drop down to an “I” color and get the same value as H?

Any help would be appreciated!

The shape of the cushion tends to show more body color than other shapes. If you are planning on setting your cushion diamond in a rose gold setting, I would say that a ‘J’ or higher color grade is perfectly fine. You could go even lower but that is up to you. 😉

I was thinking about the Blue Nile diamond LD08338594 comparing it to the one you just suggested from Blue Nile. Thoughts on that one? From the pictures it looks like the one you selected is more brilliant?

I prefer the 1.84ct I VS2: https://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD07791345 because the contrast pattern is better. Overall, this diamond is cut better and offers greater white light brilliance and scintillation (sparkle).

The 1.90ct I VS1 has light leakage under the crown facet and doesn’t face up as white or bright as the 1.84ct.

1.84ct I VS2 Cushion Cut Diamond from Blue Nile. This diamond is graded by GIA as cushion modified brilliant diamond.

Also, despite the fact that the 1.84ct is smaller in overall carat weight than the 1.90ct, consider the fact that the 1.84ct faces up larger than the 1.90ct. In other words, the 1.84ct measures 7.75×6.67mm and the 1.90ct measures 7.26×6.74mm. So the 1.84ct looks LARGER than the 1.90ct (this due to the superior cut).
